What is Warhammer Old World is New World Again

As Battle Foam gets ready to close out this month’s New Releases for Warhammer: The Old World Miniature Storage, I wanted to reflect back on not only the long-awaited release of the game, but Warhammer Fantasy in general.

My very first miniatures game, aside from a small, unknown board game called HeroQuest, was in fact, Warhammer Fantasy. The 5th edition Starter set, which coincidentally had Bretonnia as one of its two factions, was my first glimpse into the miniature world. Within my group, I chose the Dwarves. I loved their cannons, Bugman’s Brew, lore, and of course, the Book of Grudges.

Because I was only in middle school, it took awhile to grow my Dwarven Army, but we played 2v2 often enough that my small force could team up with Wood Elves or the Lizardmen other friends were playing. After playing for a couple of years, I eventually moved onto other games, but Warhammer Fantasy was my first.

Fast forward to the Skaven and Games Workshop blowing up Fantasy, giving us Age of Sigmar! This reimagined game came with, as you can imagine, a slew of opposition from the community, but it was good to see it garner a following after some new editions and upgrades. The quality of the models were great, but it didn’t match the rank and file and charm of Fantasy for me, so I never really got back into it.

Shortly after starting my career in the world of Miniatures Wargaming Storage with Battle Foam, there were rumblings of Games Workshop bringing Fantasy back. It would be called The Old World, and it would allow me to use my old miniatures as well as bring out some new sculpts. I felt this hybrid approach would be great, even if I had to rebase some units. My sea of gray would now be useful again.

Years went by without information, followed by teasers, and now, finally, we have rules and a release! I will patiently wait for my Dwarves to be released officially and get their Arcane Journal. In the meantime, I might get the Orcs and Goblins. They were always fun to watch. It is nice to come full circle with my first game 20+ years later.

Battle Foam will give each release its day in the Sun. We’ve already started with the Kingdom of Bretonnia and Tomb Kings of Khemri. If you are looking for the best miniature storage for your Warhammer Fantasy / The Old World Minis, we have brand new Foam Load Outs for them. Don’t forget if you prefer magnetic storage, our Magna Rack system works great with units on movement trays!

Now it is time to plan my lists, get my troops ready to hold the line, and paint models that are 20+ years old!
