Serving as the favored agents of Nurgle—the Chaos God of Pestilence and Decay—the Death Guard rank among the traitorous Legions that turned against the Emperor. Originally designated as the Dusk Raiders, the XIV Legion assumed the name Death Guard upon reuniting with their Primarch Mortarion.

Renowned for their supernatural immunity to toxins, contagion, and fatigue, the Death Guard perfected attrition tactics long before turning traitor. Their legendary durability was exponentially amplified by Nurgle's blessing, which deadens their nervous systems and renders them impervious to pain.

Advancing to war flanked by foul constructs of Nurgle, the Death Guard employ buzzing Daemon Engines to scout ahead while armored artillery vehicles provide heavy barrage support from behind. Plagued masses stagger toward hostile positions as daemonic horrors manifest from infected battlefields, all under the shadow of Mortarion, the winged Primarch of Decay.

Following the collapse of the Cadian Gate and the emergence of the Great Rift, the Death Guard pour forth from the Plague Planet to blight Imperial territories with Nurgle's unholy blessings.

After receiving a reward from Grandfather Nurgle, Typhus absorbed the full power of the Destroyer Plague. His body became home to the flies of Nurgle, his armour a hive of pestilence, it was then that he became Typhus, Herald of Nurgle and the Host of the Destroyer Hive.
